The United Arab Emirates were formed in 1971 when the states of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah came together to form the sovereign state. The UAE now covers 83,600 sq kms with a population of just over 3 million. Dubai is the main commercial centre within the Emirates and hosts some of the finest hotels anywhere in the world. The investment in Dubai has continued to grow and the construction of Palm Island has added 120 kms of beachfront to the beautiful Dubai coastline. The project consists of two identical palm shaped islands each hosting a number of boutique hotels, luxury villas and a host of recreational facilities including shopping complexes and cinemas.

Ramadan is a period in the Islamic year when Muslims fast between dawn and dusk. This is a fasting month for Muslims, the dates it falls on changes each year depending on the site of the Crescent of a New Moon, Ramadan in 2020 is expected to start on the 24th of April (24/4/2020) and will continue for 30 days until the 23rd of May (23/5/2020). As a sign of respect, non Muslims are requested not to consume food, drink, chew gum or smoke in public. No live music, entertainment or dancing will be available during this period, however bars open from the break of the fast until 1am. During the day restaurants will still open, however they are be sectioned for non Muslims. All other facilities, beach, shopping, water sports, spa and leisure facilities remain open as normal.
